The modern, attractive layout offers superior interior volume for up to 8 birds, is light and easy to move as well as being fantastically convenient to keep clean. DesignWe're smallholders ourselves, based in rural Devon near Axminster and share our busy family life with a menagerie of animals. Despite being enthusiastic about modern self sufficiency we just couldn't get excited about existing hen house designs which whilst looking very traditional, remain unwieldy to move, difficult to clean and poorly detailed. The EggPod™ has been designed to offer a contemporary yet immensely practical design, which is as at home in the depths of the Devon countryside as a Putney back garden. Our chickens love it and yours will too. The EggPod™ designer Mark Turner originally qualified as a Chartered Building Surveyor and knows a thing or two about practical building design and use of materials. Unwilling to compromise purchasing a traditional design for our own chickens he couldn't resist the challenge of creating a modern alternative available in kit form for fellow enthusiasts. A few sketches, a card model and a nagging wife demanding a useful birthday present saw the first prototype take shape. We intend the production version to be made with a recycled plastic cladding to compliment the traditional plywood body. Our other business is recycling old boat and aircraft sails into new products for home and garden and our sustainable approach to business applies to the eggpod too. So Mark's now on the chicken run himself as we gear up for commercial production. ConstructionThe EggPod™ is supplied in flat pack kit form and is satisfying simple to assemble in a matter of minutes by anyone able to use a screwdriver. If Hugh can manage it, you can too!
The unique construction combines a traditional tanalised ply and softwood timber body structure with fox proof recycleable plastic roof panels which are easily opened or removed for access to egg boxes and cleaning. Access panels are retained by durable webbings and fast action clips making interior access a breeze. The pop hole door is locked open with a marine Clamcleat fitting and is fully compatible with automatic motorised operators. AvailabilityThe EggPod™ is currently undergoing final prototyping before we commence full scale kit production. We're also working on an equally novel design of a secure chicken run for the smaller garden which will attach to the front of the pod.
